Server Update 6- 24 - 2008
New command: #ignore_bots
It does what you'd expect it to do, however it is only for channels, not for local or PM. Typing the command again will unignore them. Note that this will work for ALL the channels, not just marketing.
New perk: One
Mines, caltrops, wards, etc. hurt you in non PK maps as well. The Undereworlds, and the Underworlds alone, are an exception.
New perk: The Underworlder
Allows you to use the teleport to portal rooms (both versions), and teleport rings directly from the underworld. A good idea if you chose to get One.
New Perk: The Summoner
Gives 10 more summoning levels for the purpose of calculating your creature's attack, 20 more levels for the purpose of calculating their defense, as well as +5% more critical to hit and to damage.
The Artificer perk has been reintroduced.
Server Update 6- 8 - 2008
Actually, the changes are in effect since the server was restarted yesterday, but I forgot to post about them.
The summoned monsters have their attack based on this formula: Original attack + summoning_level%
Their defense is: 0 + (summoning_level/2)%
Server Update 6- 7 - 2008
New invasion monster, no hints about it, no details, except that it will ALWAYS drop something good (at least 10Kgc).
Increased the penalties for the special arrows when used in conjunction with a non ranged weapon or unarmed.
The magic arrow fomula is the same, but will produce 75 arrows. Yes, not very realistic, but who cares?
The bronze armor formula has been disabled for a few months.
The Iron Plate book price has been reduced to 20K
Server Update 5- 29 2008
Fixed some grammar errors.
Added the RC mine/detonator* and their books.
Increased the invasion monsters drop chance (especially for higher end creatures, but not only).
Arrow/bolt head and yew weight less.
Magic arrows are makable.*
Mines and caltrops have 5 less base damage, but the engineering level/5 is applied to the damage as a bonus.
All the mines are storable in the normal storages.
The Hazmat storages also allow deposit or withdrawal of normal items as well.
Mercury is now storable in normal storages.
- The formulas on the manufacture page does not list the quantity. Those formulas produce more than 1 item, and the quantity should be adequate.
Also, the RC detonator will dissapear after each use, as seen on the test server.
Updates from 4-20 to 5- 28 2008
(5-5-08) Server Update
The leather gloves are in the tools category now.
TSing reduce by 8, rather than by 10.
Reduced the feros auto attack level a little.
Mr. Ice Dragon now has a spawn.
The tunics are makable.
4 negative perk removal stones. You will need to pay back the PPs though.
Most of the invasion monsters/animals will now have a chance to drop better stuff, some of the stuff being unique (invasion tokens and perk removal stones). The higher the monster level, the higher the chance to drop stuff.
(5-5-08) Server Update
Changed the break rate of the bronze sword to 1/25 (from 1/10.
The arrow head formula will now produce two arrow heads.
Some penalties removed from the bronze armor (plate and cuisses), and it will also degrade into damaged bronze armor (plate, cuisses, greaves). This degraded armor is not, and will not be for the forseable future repairable.
The black and red dragon armor (except for the helms) will also degrade, and the degraded versions can not be repaired.
Added a new invasion monster, the Shy Rat. Some of them, (1/1000 chance) will drop invasion tokens, that will be redeemable later.
Added 12 new spawns.
Newbie stuff, not for most of the players:
Simplified the newbie tutorial a little, and fixed some obsolete stuff errors.
Newbies start with more a/d experience (1K), and go to the underworld and lose items only after OA 15.
Rabbits and beavers made weaker.
(4-19-08) Server Update
Added the magic and failure astrology modifiers.
Changed the breaking mechanism a little, now the items should, under certain circumstances, break less.
Leonard will leave the map soon after killing someone.
Maintenance:
The guilds member lists fixed (to take into account name changes, etc.)
Old and innactive newbie accounts removed.
P2Ps expiration done.
(5-20-08) Announcements/New Arenas Constructed!
A collection of warriors has banded together to create arenas for others like them to use throughout the regions of Irilion. Construction took place in Zirakinbar, Iscalrith, and Kusamura. Each of them has a level restriction on those who can use them, to aid in friendly fighting between fellow fighters.
Jasla came to test out the new Zirakinbar arena with another fighter. They practice shooting their bows at eachother on the raised-platform arena. She has this mental image to share.
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/bickel615/archeryarenas.jpg)

(5-20-08) Announcements/Mysteries Abound in Azaghal Castle
The dark castle of Azaghal has been closed for months now for unknown reasons, but it seems that passage through this evil place is again possible. Jasla carefully explored the castle, but doesn't seem to remember her way around for some reason. What dark magic could be at work here? She sends a mental image from the main corridor.
(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/bickel615/draianewscastle.jpg)
Jasla stays near the light, and hopes the creatures leave her be.
(5-22-08) General Chat/ Mines
In order to make the mines more useful, I came up with a few ideas:
1. Make the mines be storable in the normal storage.
2. Add some extra damage based on the engineering level of the one who placed them.
3. New mines (the RC mine).
4. New negative perk, "One".
Now, the new perk is the most interesting.
It will give something like 5-10 PPs (to be determined). What this perk will do is very simple (and evil). It will make you take damage from mines/caltrops/etc. even in non PK areas. With the new RC mines, that's going to kind of suck to be you, because if you afk for just moments, someone can place 8 RC mines around you, then boom.
So, the question is, is there anyone willing to take the perk? And if so, for how many PPs?
Please post only if you are willing to take it, I don't want stuff like: "Lol no one is gonna take it lol".
(5-22-08) General Chat/ Harvesting and Food Shortage
Summary
When harvesting, food level seems to drop quicker than 1 point per minute. Change not seen listed in the official server update announcements. When was this change implimented?
Been like that for a while
1 food per minute:
Blue Star Flower, Impatiens, Tiger Lilly, Red Snapdragons, Lilacs, Blue Lupines, Chrysanthemum, Cactus, Yellow Rose, Red Rose, Black Rose, White Asiatic Lily, Swamp Candles, Sunflowers
Faster food rate:
Wheat, Cotton, Daffodils, Mugwort, Valerian, Rue, Poppies, Dandelion, Poison Ivy, Toadstool, Tulips, Red Currents, Blue Berries, Henbane, Mullein, Nightshade, Yarrow, Wormwood, White Chanterelle, Ogre Toes, Tree Mushroom
Server Update 2008-4-19
New books, new formulas, and new items.
The new formulas can be found at http://www.eternal-lands.com/manufacture.htm
Also, the check for determining if weapons or equipment breaks have been changed to happen each time there is a hit, regardless of damage. Some people were exploting this by pvping in their highest armors, so no damage was done, and no items broke.
New TEST update
Read ALL & follow the instructions below before downloading or doing anything!
We need some people to test out the new sky client. Please post bugs here on it.
If you do not know how to unzip files then don't try this unless you have someone to help you!
1. Download this zip file(windows client only): http://www.eternal-lands.com/misc/EL_skytest01.zip And unzip it into your Eternal Lands directory. It will overwrite some files.
2. Run the new el_sky01.exe file. This file can only be found in your EL directory, it won't automatically appear on your desktop or replace the icons currently on your desktop.
Once you have the client running...
1. Under the Adv. Video settings adjust the Near & Far plane distance. The Near plane should be something very small, I have mine set at the minimum value: 0.10. The Far plane can be as large as your computer can handle. So just use whatever works for you and adjust it as needed.
2. Under Sky&Cam tab click on Extended Camera-this allows you to see the sky.
3. Under the Details tab, make sure you have Render Fog turned on. The fog has been changed quite a lot and it's now a part of the sky atmosphere. If you experience any problems or can't run the client with the fog on then turn it off.
4. Feel free to play with the settings under the Sky&Cam tab, and try out the Follow cam.
5. Pressing alt+f puts you into first person view. Pressing alt+g puts you in "Grab Mode".
6. With the sky, having a lower perspective set, around 40, will look better than having it very high. Having it high is no longer needed to see far in the distance.
Trouble shooting:
1. Do you log in and it's all black? Do #1 above.
2. Does your camera go undergound and get "stuck"? Press alt+f, then alt+f again to go back to normal 3rd person view.
3. Do you see no sky? Go to Sky&Cam tab and press Extended Camera.
4. The water probably looks awkward because the clouds don't match the reflection in the water. That'll be fixed.
In El forums/Game topics/General Chat/Xfire
Hi folks,
A long time ago a few players tried to get Eternal Lands working on Xfire and getting Xfire's official support. I had made a simple website to guide players. For a short period of time we had moderators broadcasting the url to this site. We also have an Eternal Lands Players guild on Xfire. It's almost been three years and unfortunately we still haven't had enough demand to get officially supported.
For those who don't know what Xfire is:
Xfire (pronounced ex-fire) is a freeware instant messaging service targeted at gamers, that also serves as a game server browser and has various other features (like voice-chat, in-game instant messaging, game tracking and many more). It's designed for Windows (Linux users see "Gfire", Mac OS X users see "Xblaze") and is rapidly developing. They have over 7 million registered users and is said to be essential for the everyday gamer. More information can be found on their website or here.
I believe having Eternal Lands supported by Xfire will not only increase the number of Xfire users here in EL, but it will also lure new players to our world.
So this is why I've decided to create a new, fresh thread, along with a tutorial on how to get EL (unofficially) working on Xfire (w00t w00t!). I'm doing this so we can all test it out, to see if it works, see if there's any bugs, and whether or not we can solve it. Just keep in mind that many features of Xfire won't be available until it's officially supported. So if you have Xfire, that's great. If not, you can download it, register and try helping out.
In order to get Xfire to detect Eternal Lands, you will need to do the following five simple steps:
(make sure both EL and Xfire are closed before following the steps)
1. I came up with a code that gets EL working on Xfire, it's not perfect, but it works. In the directory your Xfire is installed in there is a file named 'xfire_games.ini', open it with your favourite text editor and scroll down to the end and add the following code, save it and close it.
CODE
[99]
LongName=Eternal Lands
ShortName=el
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eternal Lands
LauncherExe=el.exe
DetectDirDefault=C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands
ProcessWindowTitle=Eternal Lands
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=OGL
InGameFlags=ENABLE_MOUSE
2. Launch Xfire up and see if it has automatically detected Eternal Lands. Go to Tools > Launch. Is EL there on the list? If it is skip step 3. If not we will have to manually show Xfire EL's installation path.
3. We will have to manually add EL to Xfire's launch list now. Go to Tools > Options > Games tab. Expand the 'Not Installed' list and scroll down to where 'Eternal Lands' is and select it. Select 'Manual Setup', hit browse and find the path to Eternal Lands (ie. C:\Program Files\Eternal Lands\). Hit 'Apply' and then 'OK'. Yes, I know it doesn't have an icon because it's not officially supported by Xfire.
4. We will try launching EL through Xfire now. Go to Tools > Launch > Eternal Lands. If it does launch see if your Xfire Status (the message at the bottom of your Xfire window) shows 'Eternal Lands'. If it does, congratulations! Now the developers at Xfire have nothing left to do, the code is ready, they just have to get off their lazy arses and test the code out for themselves.
5. Now to see if Xfire In-Game works. Once EL has opened up and you've logged on hit ScrLk+X. You should get the In-Game menu to show up (if it doesn't work at first try going into FullScreen mode and out again). If it works, great job! Check if the Screenshot feature works as well, hit ScrLk+S for that. You can upload the screenshots onto your Xfire profile for everyone to see and show that EL works!
Post here if you can't get it working and we'll see if we can help you. Those of you who are intelligent and computer literate, if you would like to try and tweak the code a bit here is a list of properties and variables available. My Xfire username is sistema, you can add me if you wish. You can also post here if you would like to join the EL Players guild on Xfire too.
Here's a screenshot that shows the Xfire In-Game menu in Eternal Lands:
(IMG:http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6863/elonxfireqo6zo8.th.jpg)
I would like as many people as possible to test this out for me. Once we've confirmed that it's working we can start posting on the EL support thread on the Xfire forums. There's no other way for EL to get supported guys, we need to show that we have demand, and I simply can't do this alone. So please, bump the topic there as often as you can.
- I would also like to request people who have got it working to send Pilot51, an Xfire regular known and acknowledged by the Xfire devs, a private message through the Xfire forums saying that you vote for EL to be supported. He has a list of games which want support, and how many people have voted for it here. Thanks.*
Thank you,
- Sistema.
Server Update 2008-4-16
Update on Ranging
Yew can be harvested for when the time comes to make arrows. Harvestable areas are
Kasumara Jungle 80, 343 and Grunbani Plains 71,225.
You'll need to purchase a saw or two from a general store.
Not sure what harvest skill you need, recommended is 80.
Updates On Pets Read the whole thing before replying, or you get banned
Soon I want to start working at some pets, one at a time. The first pet will be the fighter pet, and I will like some feedback (constructive and intelligent feedback ktnxb).
The way I see the pets is like this: 1. You buy a pet egg (later on, it might be manufacturable under summoning, but not sure about it yet). The price of the egg will be high, perhaps around 100-200K, to prevent everyone from getting it and overcrowd the game with pets.
2. Once you use the egg, the pet spawns, starting at level 1.
3. There will be 10 levels for the pet, the levels will be different than for the players.
4. The pet will be around for a limited time, and will require pet food. For example, 1 minute of the pet being around will cost 1 food item. The food price will have to be determined, probably something like 100 gc.
5. The pet will auto feed if you have food in your inventory, and there will be a way to unsummon the pet if desired (for example, to stop eating food if not in use). Alternatively, you will be able to give the pet as much food as you want, and it won't self feed from your inventory. The exact implementation needs to be decided.
6. Once the pet is unsummoned, you will need a special item to resummon it, and the item will dissapear after each use. The cost of the item will be around 200gc, but that's to be dtermined.
7. If the pet dies (such as during a fight), then you will need a pet ressurection item, which will be in the 500-1K gc range.
8. You will be able to give your pet some items, such as healing potions, which it will use by itself, when needed.
9. When the pet dies, it will lose all the items.
10. There will be some combat settings for the pet, for example cautious, normal or aggressive. A cautious will only attack weaker monsters, while an aggressive pet will attack anything it can find. Probably there will also be a setting to tell the pet if you want it to attack only those you are fighting with, or anyone that is not an ally.
11. Leveling up: This is the tricky part, where I want some feedback. There will be a few things to help level the fighter pet: a. Food. The more time he is around, the more he will be able to level. b. Pet exp stones (which will increase the pet exp), and will be buyable from the NPC. c. Killing enemies. There should be a way to avoid people with pets competing with newbies over the rabbit-goblin spawns, so perhaps only stronger monsters than the pet will count for exp. purposes. Probably, a level will take all 3 of the above mentioned things. For example, to move to level 2, a pet will need to be summoned for at least 1 hour, kill 20 monsters, and get 10 pet exp stones. Of course, the numbers are PIOMA (pulled in out of my ass), and they will need some careful consideration.
So, what do you think? Any ideas? Please notice that we are talking about the fighting pet here, not the pets in general. Any questions/suggestion about pets in general will be deleted, and the poster will be suspended from the forums for a few weeks.
Server Update 2008-4-7
1.6.0 UPDATE download from EL
(4/5/08) The bows and arrows are buyable from the NPC now. Please keep in mind that the prices/attributes of the bows and arrows might be adjusted in the future.
In other news, Leonard, new c2 roving monster/animal that will attack at night, has a better player avoidance routine when scared, and the brooken book seller NPC (that was in an inaccessible map) has now been placed outside of his shop.
(4/2/08) 1. Fixed a REALLY nasty bug where Leonard would lose 1 a/d every minute. Now wonder n00bs were able to get him. 2. Slightly improved his flee. There will be some new improvements soon. 3. Now he only gets out at night. 4. A couple map bug fixes.
Server Update 2008-3-25
From Server Update 2008-2-8 :
- The new storager is located in the Willovine Academy.
- The HazMat Storage in C2 has been moved to the Melinis sewers.
Special Thanks to Gampa
(3/21/08) A New Deity has Arisen!
The Churches have just reported that two of the past Greater Gods have left their Godly Realm and two more Gods have been promoted to Godly status! Lucaa, a past resident of the city of Zirakinbar, and Jayden, and expert potionist have dropped their mortal status to become of higher power! Glydoc and Centau have both been taken off the worshipping list by the churches of Seridia and Irilion. The new Deities will certainly bring some new changes to the lands we know.
(3/28/08) - Found in General Chat
For you folks that understand this :)
Here is the binary, compiled by Schmurk on Ubuntu:
http://www.eternal-lands.com/elc_160_linux.zip
Here is the data: http://www.eternal-lands.com/el_update_data_160.zip
Please note that the data is slightly incomplete, as in missing some future items. We are going to add soon, so I will provide a zip with those modified files, but for now, this data is adequate.
Let me know if it works for you, and post your linux distro too.
Please post in forum even if it works.
- [edit] Here is a semi static bin: http://www.eternal-lands.com/elc_160_linux_static.zip
Let them know in forum if this works.
RC Update
In General Chat/Linux 1.6.0 client test
This is, hopefully, the final RC before the actual update. If this RC testing goes well, we can have the update sometime this week.
Please note that some modified maps are included, so in some areas on the main server you will experience map issues. Please do not report them, or you will get banned for at least 1 month from the forum.
Those maps should, however, be working on the test server, so if you decided to use the final RC and go on the test server, do report possible map issues here (with coordinates and preferably a screenshot)/
The files are: http://www.eternal-lands.com/el_final_rc_160.exe (el_rc_160_final.exe is the exe for the new client, so don't use el.exe)
For Linux/BSD/Mac, the data only is here: http://www.eternal-lands.com/el_update_data_160.zip.
Server Update 2008-3-11
(3/10/08) Arrow test on test server seems to have gone well. Check Out EL Forums/ General Chat/ Arrows test for more more.
(3/4/08)

(3/11/08) PRE RC 11 - http://www.eternal-lands.com/el_pre_rc_12_03_07.exe Install it in your EL folder, don't make backups or anything! Run el_pre_rc_11.exe
Hopefully, this is the last PRE RC, so I strongly encourage everyone to test it and report problems.
Report any issues in EL Forums/General Chat/ Pre RC 11.
If you still have problems with the selection, you can turn it off in the config window, under the Video tab.
An Old God Gains New Insight (3/10/08)
The ancient God Iringold, the father of the Draegoni, has had a recent surge in worship gain. In turn, followers have constructed a shrine in honor of the forgotten God. The shrine can be found somewhere in Irinveron.
For those who don't know, Iringold stays most active in the cold regions of Irilion. Seemingly pleased with the sudden spurt of worshipers, Iringold's glee also seems to have adjusted the appearance of Hulda. In turn, Irinveron seems to have had some sudden geographical changes as well.

- Introduced Attribute Caps for Primary Attributes. It is currently set at 48. This update also allowed for those with attributes above 48 who were affected by this change to redistribute any point above 48 they had spent.
- Changed the way the Restoration spell works so that it no longer provides an automatic full health recharge.
- Changed the reagent cost for Heal Other. Instead of the one Health Essence that was required, it now takes two.
