Header templates
Ok, I put the Header with the branches in a template Template:FoCW_Header.
The template is alled with arguments in first line. {{{1}}},{{{2}}} are replaced.
{{FoCW_Header|Fellowship Of The Celtic Woods|Welcome to the FoCW Wiki!}}
I tried to leave the first two <div> open to have the rest of the page in a fixed layout. But when calling the template looks like all open tags are automatically closed.
so I need the next two lines
<div id="container"> <div class="wrapper">
To fix the rest of the page.
and I would like to get rid of these two lines somehow.
You can look at the page source, for the styles the wiki uses. I think the body of the page is style bodyContent
i tried putting bodyContent { width: 718px } in MediaWiki:Common.css this fixes the page but makes it alined to the left, dunno how to center it.
the whole style definition is in: http://focw.dragoncairn.net//wiki/skins/monobook/main.css
You cannot edit that just override in Common.css
bodyContent
I modified that style. Now in MediaWiki:Common.css but how do I center it ?

Structure
- I think it would look better to change the structure of this page to something like this:
- Welcome
- Unofficial
- Index
- Announcements
- How to handle secrets and the editing help should be moved to the appropriate Editing-help page and a link to that page added here
- Request for Admins should go here as well
- Fellowship-bot announcement should go here as well
- the last two obviously only if they're still needed
- This (and other pages) would tremendously benefit from some nice pictures/artwork.

Created Help:Editing with the information from How to handle secrets and Should need more info. Expanded and added information. Meant as a replacement as stated above. --Ermabwed 21:27, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Last days
Let's use this page to discuss DC's announcement.
- I've sent him an email asking for details on bandwidth/month and the associated costs. A quick search gave that you can get hosting|VPS for about $5|$10/month with >=50GB bandwidth, maybe less if you search more thoroughly.
- What speaks for funding the wiki as it is now?
- convenient
- no move needed
- no setup of a new wiki/domain needed
- nobody else has to deal with the financial side
- convenient
- What speaks for moving the wiki to another server?
- software updates (currently using a pretty old version of the MediaWiki software (yes, I prefer up-to-date software)
- wiki extensions and wiki features that are currently not available since DC isn't involved in EL or the wiki anymore.
- maybe better connectivity (I for one am getting frequent time-outs when connecting to the wiki)
Of course the above list could be enhanced, this is just what came to my mind first.
Personally I'd be both willing to donate to the wiki (in fact I'll chip in some bucks to keep this site funded until we reach a decision here as soon as I know the numbers) or pay for a different host as I could use a host for other sites I'm involved with anyways but don't exactly need that either.

- I believe its time for the wiki to move to another server.
- For all the reasons Ermabweb posted (improving the wiki; we need a person that answers the requests of the editors).
- Reading DragonCairn text I see that he's not interested in the game or the wiki anymore, why should he have to deal with the funding and the bandwidth usage of the sites?
- Even if donations are made now I believe this problem will only be postponed for some months. (In the past I've seen several messages announcing the near end of the wiki).
- I see that all the work Ermabwed, Gampa, me and others had is in risk of being lost, so until everything is decided I'll stop my edits on the wiki.
- My work is not related with computers so I can't help with the move but I'll donate money to keep the new site up.
- (I really hope that other persons enter this discussion.)

- I talked to Krrick and we're in the process of getting ready to move the dragoncairn.net domain to another server. I'll try to have the wiki locked for editing once we're ready to move.--Ermabwed 17:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
People are willing to donate once it's hosted and maintained by someone other than me, and I find that insulting. For years I have hosted this wiki, I have been held accountable for its content, I have been responsible for it's costs.
3 people have donated over the entire life of the wiki.
- Setec who no longer plays EL.
- Audhilde, my better half.
- And Bob42, Audhilde's father.
Folks are upset that I'm going to remove their hard work, or that I'm removing a source of information that they use. I'm sorry, hosting this thing is a thankless and tiring job. I've been approached by some folks interested in taking it on, but after reading that comment - I'm incensed.
Yes, I'll answer the charge that I've threatened the wiki before - and each time, without monetary recompense folks managed to talk me out of it and to have compassion. And the charge that I've abandoned it, yes why should I pay any attention to something that gives me a ZERO ROI. I'm not even talking a fiscal ROI, but there's no thank yous in the requests I get to have accounts activated, nor is there a thank you once I activate those accounts.
I WAS willing to allow others to host it and take over it's management. I WAS willing to allow the server to remain up until February while it's move got negotiated. I'm not sure I'm willing anymore. --DC 22:16, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, I for one am certainly thankful that you've been doing this and the more so after reading your mail on how it affects your personal internet experience and the associated costs.
The move should be done with fairly quickly. If Krrick and me can resolve one little problem here we might get done with it by Monday, even if that problem can't be resolved we could get it done by Monday I suppose but nothing of dragoncairn.net would be accessible during that time.
I think the wiki is a wonderful project and we're moving it to a new server because it has outgrown the current setup; apparently the need for this step has been evident for some time now so I don't think anybody should blame DC here for bringing it up again but rather blame those sweet talkers that convinced him to keep hosting it instead of planning a move sooner :)
Anyways, I hope we can get this move done quickly and maybe some will feel the spirit of the season and make use of that "Donate" button.
--Ermabwed 00:14, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
I fully expect that donate button to be redirected to someone else's account to help defray their costs in hosting it. After all, if I'm not the host, then I should not be receiving donations. --DC 04:16, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, once the wiki is moved I'll have it point to Krrick's paypal or if she doesn't have one to mine and forward the money to her bank account. However, donations that are made before the move will go to you to cover costs from the past as is the case with donations that ask to go to you after the move.
Update: I think I know how to solve the problem and have contacted Krrick by Gossip to ask her to perform the necessary steps. Once I am ready to move the wiki I'll make an announcement on the Main Page so people know that anything added after that announcement won't be moved. Same goes for the forums.

.htaccess
For those interested in helping out with the minor problem mention on the main page, here's the curently used .htaccess file
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(stylesheets|images|skins|forum|focw|wikiimages|situ)/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(redirect|texvc|index).php RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/error/(40(1|3|4)|500).html RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/favicon.ico RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/robots.txt RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?title=$1 [L,QSA]
MediaWiki upgrade
Updated the Wiki software to the most recent version (1.13.4), figured out that the Short URL/Ampersand problem probably won't work with out current setup, so I'll move the pages and add redirects.
Please let me know if you encounter problems or if you suddenly can do stuff that you couldn't do before etc. or the other way around.
PS: the previous server errors today were due to permissions not being set correctly while I updated the software (and the ssh session got reset before the update script finished multiple times >.<)
SVG images
Hi, is there a possibility to upload svg graphics? I have a source svg here for Attributes.png , but I can't upload it through the normal upload dialog. Will the possibility of svg images possibly be added?
--Andalan 01:50, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, I haven't really looked into that at all, I'm sure it would be possible. What I'd like to know is whether all up to date/common browsers support this before going into it though. --Ermabwed 20:01, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
